Text Box: Septum is the Latin word for wall. The nasal septum divides the nose into left and right. It is composed of cartilage and bone covered by a mucous membrane. The ideal nasal septum is fairlyly midline, but estimates are that 80% of all nasal midlines are off-center.

When off centered, difficulty breathing through the nose occurs. Deviated septums most frequently result from some form of trauma. When problematic, a deviated septum can be corrected.

Along with the septoplasty, rhinoplasty or additional sinus surgery may be necessary. Recovery time will vary, depending upon the severity of the deviation, and other required surgery(ies).
