Text Box: Patients come to see us suffering from sinus problems all year around. A sinus infection, or sinusitis, is an inflammation of the sinuses and nasal passages together with a headache, pressure in the eyes, nose, cheeks, or on one side of the face. It may or may not be a result of bacterial, fungal, viral or allergic infection. There may also be a cough, fever, bad breath and nasal congestion.

Sinuses help lighten the skull, and allow the voice to resonate within it. The four major pairs of sinuses are the:
Frontal sinuses (in the forehead)
Ethmoid sinuses (between the eyes)
Sphenoid sinuses (behind the eyes)
Maxillary sinuses (behind the cheek bones)

Our goal in treating a sinus infection involves reducing the swelling or inflammation in the nasal passages and sinuses, eliminating the infection, and promoting and maintaining open drainage of the sinuses. At the office, we will asses the extent of the infection and whether antibiotics will be helpful based on the type of infection.

For patients with an obstruction of the sinus passages to the nose, we offer a new, state-of-the-art procedure, called Balloon Sinuplasty. Click below to view Dr. Baluyot’s interview:

I
n chronic sinus diseases (long-standing) especially those with polyps, surgical relief is obtained with a more involved procedure called endoscopic sinus surgery. Dr. Baluyot studied in Austria with Dr. Stammberger, the inventor of Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS).

What is Balloon Sinuplasty?

Think of what angioplasty does for blocked arteries.

That’s what balloon sinuplasty does for the sinuses.
